Ludhiana, Feb 9 (ANI): For the first time ever in India, Sikh couples walked down a ramp in a couple contest in Ludhiana. Donning both exquisite traditional and western outfits, around 170 couples participated in the contest titled “Guru Sikh Couple Contest” out whom ten contestants were chosen as the best. Gurpreet Singh, one of the organisers of the contest, said the purpose of the event was to send out a message to the younger generation to keep their cultural values intact while professing modernity.
Hundreds of miles away from the Sikh-centric city of Birmingham, the British High Commission in Chandigarh held a meet to generate interest for Birmingham Commonwealth Games slated for July-August 2022. With the opening of direct air services from Amritsar to Birmingham and the likelihood of such a service starting from Mohali airport, sports lovers from Punjab are likely to use this opportunity to visit Birmingham, after a tiresome two years of Covid-tardy time. Ludhiana-based travel enthusiasts Harjinder Singh Kukreja and his wife Harkirat Kaur Kukreja were present at the function to boost Punjab’s participation in the forthcoming event. WSN reports.
An Indo-Canadian healthcare worker, Navjit Kaur Brar won the Municipality elections in Ward No. 2 and 6 on October 24. The culture of Punjab is very diverse it encompasses the cuisines, traditions, values, science, and history of the Punjabi people. Its culture is supposed to be one of the oldest and richest cultures in the world. Punjab means the land of five rivers as the word Punjab is made up of two words ‘Panj’+ ‘Aab’ where ‘Panj’ means five in Punjabi and ‘Aab’ mean rivers in Punjabi. Indus River (the largest river in this five river system), and the five other rivers to the south that eventually all join it or merge into it later downstream in the Punjab valley.
